CNTAC's Investigation Tour for Feeling the Pulse of Textile Industry
- Sep 05, 2017 -

On April 10, China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC) held a meeting to share the results of the "spring investigation tour", an annual event designed to "feel the pulse" of the textile industry.

From March 20 to March 28, CNTAC organized 12 investigation teams to go to Zhejiang, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Fujian, Jiangxi, Chongqing, Sichuan and Guangxi. They visited 121 enterprises and organizations in 39 zones/industrial clusters and organized 24 seminars which were attended by about 300 entrepreneurs. The investigation focus on four themes: developing trend of the textile industry; brand & responsible development; restructuring; and technology & sustainability, which include eleven sub-topics: operation of textile economy; social responsibility, upgrading of consumption; brand strategy; transformation and upgrading of enterprises; regional restructuring; integration of information technology and manufacturing technology; overseas investment and export markets; intelligent manufacturing; sustainable development; and transformation and upgrading of key sectors.

Since the beginning of this year, the textile industry in Shandong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian and Guangdong provinces, where textile production is concentrated, have maintained steady operation and development despite suffering from negative factors such as weak demand on the world market and increasing pressure of economic downturn. With this tour, CNTAC gets an overall picture of the industry: most backbone enterprises have maintained steady development, with major economic indicators such as operating revenue and profits improved. These enterprises, by positively exploring new business models and developing intelligent and advanced technologies, have significantly improved productivity. Many enterprises benefited from sustained technical reform, realized double-digit growth in 2016. For instance, in January-February, the textile industry in Jiangxi Province made a good start at the beginning of this year, with major economic indicators growing steadily and better than the average of the national textile industry. However, the textile industry still faces many problems, such as weakening cost advantage, bottleneck of human resources, financing difficulty and lagging updates of industry standards.

Meanwhile, the textile industry presents the following new developing trends:

New supply docking with new retailing

It has become an industry-wide common sense that for a manufacturing industry, both products and supply modes should actively adapt to the changing demand of end users. However, it seems there are diversified products on current market, but it is not easy for consumers to find what they really like. To develop better products, garment enterprises hope to find better yarn and fabric, but it is hard for them to find suitable suppliers due to mismatched supply and demand structure. The investigation teams analyzes that the existing supply system has yet adapted to the changed structure of consumption, the mode of supply chain has not shifted and producers need to make greater efforts to better serve consumers. Therefore, to optimize product supply structure, it necessary to further tap hotspots of consumption and blind spots of demand, expand the supply of medium- and high-end products and satisfy personalized demand by focusing on consumer experience.
